Jacques Gallo F Françoise Pironneau What Parental Guidance Is About
Mimi, ten years old, sees her mother attempt suicide. With the mother in hospital, the girl is taken in by her aunt Solange at her flat in a housing estate. From the first night what breaks her sleep is the arrival of Solange's boyfriend, Jean-Pierre, who takes too much interest in her. This is Lucile Hadžihalilović's first film, fifty two minutes long. She wrote, edited and produced it as well as directing; Gaspar Noé shot it. The film shows nothing, and builds the threat entirely out of sound and the feeling of the rooms. It screened in Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 1996.
