Parisienne

Lina is eighteen and comes from Lebanon to Paris to study. What she is looking for is not really a degree but a kind of freedom she never found at home. She has no money, her residence papers are a problem, and everywhere she stays is temporary. She learns the city by moving from man to man, flat to flat, job to job; Paris opens the door to her and keeps asking her who she is. Danielle Arbid's film draws heavily on her own history. Manal Issa plays Lina, with Vincent Lacoste opposite her. What sets it apart is that it tells a story of immigration through a young woman's own desire rather than through her victimhood.
