Looking: The Movie

A film that closes a television series. Patrick left San Francisco two years ago. He moved to Denver, built a life there and cut off contact with the people he left behind. Now he is coming back: his friend Agustín is getting married. The film spans a few days. Patrick meets his old friends, his former partners and the city he left. Nobody has been waiting for him; everyone's life has moved on. The subject is not returning but closing. Patrick has to explain why he left, and the answers he gives do not satisfy him either. It was made after two seasons of the series of the same name, to finish the story. For someone who has not watched the series, the characters' history is missing. The method is the same as the show's: long conversations, a calm pace, people walking the streets of San Francisco, and an avoidance of big dramatic moments. Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez, Murray Bartlett, Raúl Castillo and Lauren Weedman are in the cast. Andrew Haigh directed. The right ending for anyone who likes character-driven drama and closures that satisfy a show's followers. For someone thinking of watching it alone, it requires knowing the series.
