What Parking Is About
Mother's Day in Taipei. Chen Mo arranges dinner with his wife, hoping to close the distance between them. On the way home he parks to buy a cake. When he comes back a car has double parked beside his and he cannot get out. From that moment the night stretches. Chung Mong-hong's first film turns that small obstruction into a chain of strange encounters lasting all night. Stuck on the street, the man walks into the story of an apartment block, of several neighbours and of a few strangers. The telling keeps black comedy and sadness in the same place. Chang Chen plays Chen Mo. It screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008.
