The Market: A Tale of Trade

The middle of the nineteen nineties, a border town in eastern Turkey. Mihram is a sharp small trader with a head for business; he has big plans and no capital to put behind them. When he sees a transmitter mast going up nearby he decides to sell mobile phones. Then the lorry carrying medicine to the town clinic is robbed, and the doctor, left with nothing, asks him to find the drugs on the black market. Mihram treats this as the chance to change his life, gambles with public money and crosses the border with it. If he loses he will have no face left in the town; if he wins he can build a different life for his daughter and for the child about to be born. Tayanc Ayaydin and Genco Erkal appear in Ben Hopkins’s ninety three minute film, completed in 2008.
