What Peculiarities of the National Fishing Is About
General Ivolgin, the forester Kuzmich and the good-natured Lyova set out to fish, lose their way and end up in the neighbouring country. No fish are caught but the drink never runs out, and the fishing was never the point. Leaving their vodka on the wrong side of the border produces the film's best known sequence. It is a classic of Russian comedy and a sequel to Peculiarities of the National Hunt, with lines still in everyday use in Russia. That calls for a warning: the humour is deeply local and runs almost entirely on drinking, so it may not travel.
