Alessandro Aronadio's 2025 Italian film tells the story of Paolo, diagnosed with early dementia in his forties, and his son Mattia, who cares for him. It is adapted from a real case; Mattia Piccoli was honoured by the President in 2021 for the care he gave his father. The film is honest in not presenting that care as a story of heroism: what the boy loses, his anger and the times he wants to get away from his father are all shown. What it means for the carer to be a child is not asked directly but sits inside the story. Edoardo Leo's performance carries the illness without falling into imitation. The emotional steering is heavy and the music dense. Who it's for: viewers who like Italian family drama and adaptations of real events. Who it's not for: anyone put off by emotional steering, or avoiding subjects of illness and dementia.
