What Planet Ocean Is About

Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Michael Pitiot's joint documentary looks at the ocean from the air and from under the surface at once. It runs from how life began in the sea to what we are currently doing to it: fishing, pollution, warming, the death of the reefs. Visually it is as strong as Arthus-Bertrand's other work, and the aerial photography is what establishes the sense of scale. The narration is openly a warning and openly didactic, and it does not pretend otherwise. Josh Duhamel narrates. Trying to cover the whole ocean in ninety-four minutes is both its power and its limit: nothing is examined in depth, but you come away having seen the shape of the thing.
