Polar Bears: A Summer Odyssey

The documentary follows a young polar bear on his first journey alone across the Canadian Arctic. Summer has come and the ice has started to draw back. What polar bears depend on most is sea ice; without it, hunting, travelling and conserving energy all become harder. The young animal has to learn to get by in a landscape his own kind is not used to. The film gives the changing climate not as a statistic but as what it comes to in the day of a single animal. The camera follows the young animal, and the measure stays the same throughout: where the ice is, how much of it is left, and when it will go. David Suzuki narrated Sarah Robertson’s fifty minute documentary, completed in 2012.
