What Arctic Tale Is About
Two lives begin at the same moment in the Arctic: a polar bear cub and a walrus calf. The film follows both from birth to adulthood as the ice retreats, the hunting thins out and two species try to survive in the same narrowing space. Queen Latifah narrates. Adam Ravetch and Sarah Robertson made it for National Geographic in 2007, assembled from footage shot across ten years. One thing is worth knowing: Nanu and Seela are not individual animals but composite characters put together in the edit. That makes it less an observational documentary than a story told with real footage.
