Praxis Dr. Hasenbein

A small German town before the war. Doctor Hasenbein lives with his son Peter and sees very few patients at his surgery. Aunt Uschi's orphanage holds a great many children and one hamster. When the hamster falls ill the doctor finally has something to do. Then the war starts and Hasenbein has to leave. When he returns thirty years later nothing in the town is as it was. Helge Schneider is a comedian and musician in Germany with a line of humour entirely his own; he wrote the film, directed it, starred in it and made the music. His comedy rests not on plot but on absurdity; scenes go nowhere, dialogue wanders off the subject, and that is deliberate. Ninety-seven minutes. It is little known outside Germany but is a cult film for Schneider's own audience.
