What Jazzclub - Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm Is About
A musician trying to keep several jobs going at once does not quite manage any of them. Helge Schneider directs and stars, carrying his own stage persona into the film and never breaking its improvised feel. The 2004 picture does not build a conventional plot so much as lay one odd situation after another: the jazz club, the paper round and the marriage all running at the same time. It belongs to a particular strand of German absurdist comedy, and anyone who does not care for Schneider's humour will find it scattered, while anyone who does will like it for exactly that. Real jazz players appear too.
