Private Violence

The documentary is about violence in the home. By its own account one woman in four experiences it. It starts from a question people often ask. The question is why she does not just leave. The film takes that question apart. Its answer is that the question looks in the wrong direction. The account follows two women. One is Deanna Walters. Walters comes through what happened to her. In time she becomes someone pressing her own case. The other is Kit Gruelle, an advocate who works in this field and follows where women stand before the law. The film shows how the whole thing works without going into detail about the violence itself. Cynthia Hill made the seventy seven minute documentary, an American production finished in 2014.
