What Punk in London Is About
Wolfgang Büld was a film student when he took a camera and primitive recording gear to London in 1977 and went inside the punk scene: basement clubs, old warehouses, the shopfronts of labels like Rough Trade. What came out is an unedited record in which the discontent, the anger and the tension under the surface are simply left standing. There is early live footage and talk from the Clash, the Jam, X-Ray Spex, the Electric Chairs, the Boomtown Rats, the Adverts and the Lurkers. The Sex Pistols are not in it; by then they had been banned from so many British venues that they had stopped functioning as a working band.
