Red Peony Gambler: Flower Cards Game

Oryu is a gambler who lives inside the world of the yakuza. She carries a red peony tattoo on her body. In the series she is known as the Red Peony. This is the third film of that series. The story takes place in Nagoya in the middle of the Meiji era. Oryu is wandering the country and training herself. What she wants is to restore her family name. She carries a written recommendation from Kumatora. That letter brings her to the door of the Nishinomaru family. The family is in the middle of preparations. For generations they have run the gambling contest at the Netsuda shrine festival. The Kinbara family are trying to take the contest over. Oryu is drawn into the fight whether she wants it or not. The story turns on yakuza custom and on honour. Sumiko Fuji and Ken Takakura appear in the ninety eight minute film, a Japanese production Tai Katō finished in 1969.
