The Tale of Oiwa's Ghost

The account comes from a kabuki play. The play was first staged in 1825. It is known as Yotsuya Kaidan. At its centre is a ronin called Iemon. His wife is named Oiwa. Iemon is after another marriage. A scheme is set up for it. Poison is given to Oiwa in place of medicine. Her face is ruined by it. After that they try to blacken her name as well. Oiwa’s sister Osode is caught inside the scheme too. But the account does not close there. Oiwa comes back and calls them all to account. The film was shot in black and white. Tomisaburo Wakayama and Yoshiko Fujishiro take the leads in Tai Kato’s Japanese film of 1961.
