What Remains of the Wind Is About

In a village in the Portuguese interior there is an old rite performed when the wind rises: the young men of the village chase the girls, supposedly to cleanse them of sin. A group of adolescents is caught inside that rite, and what happens that day marks all of them. When they come together again in the same village twenty five years later, nobody speaks of it, but the silence leads to a fresh disaster. The film neither exalts the tradition nor judges it from outside; it shows how a closed community keeps its own violence going. Albano Jerónimo and Nuno Lopes appear in Tiago Guedes’s hundred and twenty seven minute Portuguese film; it was completed in 2022.
