What Richard III Is About

Having helped his brother Edward to the throne of England, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, decides the crown should be his next. He deceives almost everyone at court: his brother Clarence, Lady Anne who becomes his wife, and the two small boys standing between him and the throne. The bloody climb succeeds, and then everyone he betrayed turns out to have been waiting. Laurence Olivier both directed this Shakespeare adaptation and played the lead, and Richard speaking straight to the audience is what people remember from this version.
