Rifle Club

There is an old hunting club in the Western Ghats. The members are old; they clean their guns, tell each other old stories and want nothing from anyone. The club has a history and an order of rules. One day someone comes from outside. Dayanand Bare deals in weapons and his son is dead; he has traced the death to this club. He comes with his men and does not intend to leave anyone alive. The people in the club have hunting rifles. The building is stone and the windows are narrow. A fight begins that will last all night. Aashiq Abu directs; Syam Pushkaran, Dileesh Karunakaran and Suhas wrote the screenplay. Dileesh Pothan, Vijayaraghavan, Vani Viswanath and Anurag Kashyap are in the cast. The language is Malayalam. The film opened on 19 December 2024. Anurag Kashyap is known in India as a director; this is his first work in Malayalam cinema and he plays the villain. The rapper Hanumankind acts in it as well, in his first part. The form is a siege; the story takes place in one location over one night. The film carries the western into Kerala; the club is a town, and the guns and the question of honour are the genre's elements. The narrative keeps the introductions short and goes straight into the fight. The sound design and music are prominent; the gunfire sets the rhythm. Its limit is depth; the narrative gives no time to the characters and the ending is one action sequence. Who it is for: viewers who like Malayalam action cinema and mixtures of genre. Who it is not for: it is shallow, loud, and the ending conventional.
