What Rising Son: The Legend of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi Is About
The documentary tells the story of the skateboarder Christian Hosoi. In the middle of the eighties Hosoi was one of the best known names in the sport, and what he earned was a match for Tony Hawk. On the vertical ramp he worked out moves of his own, one of them known as the Christ Air. Then his life came apart: addiction, and a prison sentence for drug smuggling. After prison he turned to religion and put himself back together. The film moves through archive footage, home movies and interviews with people close to him. Tony Hawk, Jay Adams and Tony Alva are among those who speak. The account uses the language of admiration, and that view is the film’s own.
