Ryna

Ryna is sixteen. She lives in Sulina, in the Danube Delta. Her father runs a petrol station there. The family is poor. The father had wanted a son. So he raised Ryna as a boy. Her hair is short and she works as a mechanic. She spends her days with engines. She is looking for her own identity. Her father will not accept it. In the village tradition collides with new expectations. A man with standing in the area exerts power over her. The film shows this without dwelling on detail. Ryna pays a heavy price for asserting who she is. Dorotheea Petre and Valentin Popescu appear in the ninety four minute film, a Romanian and Swiss production Ruxandra Zenide finished in 2006.
