Saand Ki Aankh

In the village of Johri in Uttar Pradesh, two sisters-in-law, Chandro and Prakashi Tomar, take up target shooting past the age of fifty. It starts with taking their granddaughters to the village range; picking up a rifle there, they discover what they can do. Nobody at home knows. The two of them begin entering competitions in secret and winning medals. This is Tushar Hiranandani's first film as director and rests on the story of two real women. Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar take the leads, and the casting was argued over in India: actresses in their thirties playing women past sixty drew criticism. The producers said a number of senior actresses had turned the parts down. The film's real subject is the question of permission inside a household.
