Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire

Khansaar, a fictional city, is divided among three clans and held together by a bloody balance. Varadha is the ruling family's son and next in line for the throne, and what stands against him is his own blood. Deva, the childhood friend driven out of the city years ago, now lives quietly elsewhere with his mother, bound by a promise: the day Varadha calls, he comes back. At the centre is a friendship, and all the violence is set up as the price of it. Who Deva is stays hidden for a long time; the story moves in flashback and the real information arrives in the last twenty minutes. Prashanth Neel wrote and directed, having also made the KGF films. Prabhas plays Deva and Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Varadha, with Shruti Haasan in the cast. Hombale Films produced. It opened worldwide on 22 December 2023. Its first weekend passed thirty-nine million dollars, behind only Aquaman and Wonka worldwide that week, and the total finished above six billion rupees. Who it is for: anyone who likes loud Indian action cinema and the KGF manner. Who it is not for: anyone wanting narrative clarity. The clan politics are crowded and tangled, the film openly sets up part two, and the level of violence will be too much for some.
