What Sand Castles Is About
In Olivier Jahan’s 2015 film, Eleanor, a photographer in her thirties, loses her father and inherits his house in Brittany. Her work is no longer going the way it used to, so the house has to be sold. She has not been back since he died, and not wanting to go alone she brings Samuel, whom she left some time ago, although nothing between them is settled and he now lives with Laura. Claire, the estate agent, has meanwhile booked two days of viewings. What results is a weekend of memories, shouting and melancholy mixed with the plainly absurd, and none of the three leaves it unchanged. Emma de Caunes plays Eleanor.
