Franz Eberhofer is taken out of the village and posted to Munich. In the city he moves in with his friend Rudi and the two of them share a flat. Franz does not like the city; the traffic, the crowds, and nobody knowing anybody. Meanwhile a corruption file is opened and its end reaches the town hall. At the same time the house and the family in the village are trying to manage without him. Franz goes back and forth between the two places and belongs entirely to neither. Ed Herzog directs. The film is the fifth in the Eberhofer series adapted from the novels of Rita Falk. Sebastian Bezzel, Simon Schwarz, Lisa Maria Potthoff and Enzi Fuchs are in the cast. It is a German production. The film opened in Germany in 2018. It is the first in the series to leave the village, and most of the events happen in Munich. The matter it treats is being moved; putting the provincial character into the city produces all of the comedy. The narrative uses a thick Bavarian dialect and the jokes about language are lost in translation. Rudi and Franz living together opens a new line in the series. The detective solution is simple and the film does not try to build suspense. The family scenes work apart from the main story. The ending brings the character back to the village. Its limit is context; the relationships are confusing to anyone new to the series and the plot is loose. Who it is for: viewers who like German provincial comedy and following a series. Who it is not for: the humour is local, the narrative loose, and the ending light.
