What Save Me Is About
A young man coming apart in drugs and sex is sent by his family to a Christian ministry. The purpose of the place is plain: to treat homosexuality as an illness and cure it. Mark meets other men there who were sent for the same reason. Gayle, who runs the place, is a woman who lost her son and does this work as a duty. Robert Cary's film takes on conversion ministries without drawing a caricature: most of the people there are not ill-intentioned, they genuinely believe they are helping. And that is exactly what the film says: good intentions do not change the outcome. The telling does not attack faith, it objects to faith being applied to this. Chad Allen is both in the lead and among the producers.
