What Say 'I Love You' Is About
Mei speaks to nobody at school; because of something that happened to her as a child she has made neither friends nor boyfriends. Through a misunderstanding she injures Yamato, the most popular boy in the school. Yamato likes her, and without asking anyone he tells everybody that Mei is his friend. One day, to get her away from a stalker, he kisses her, and the story starts there. Adapted from Kanae Hazuki's manga; there is an anime series as well. One note: that first kiss is not consented to, and the film presents it as a romantic rescue.
