What In Good Hands Is About
Melisa, a single mother, is given five months to live and arrives at an odd plan: to find, herself, the man who will be a good father to her son Can, and hand him over. Ketche builds it in the shape of a romantic comedy, so terminal illness functions here as plot engine rather than tragedy. The exchange between Asli Enver and Kaan Urgancioglu carries the picture. The trouble with the shape is that the decision belongs entirely to the woman while the film presents it as sacrifice rather than choice. Netflix released it in March 2022 and it found a wide audience beyond Turkey. The ending is predictable and it hits its emotional target. Who it is for: viewers who like Turkish romantic comedy and films that play straight at the feelings. Who it is not for: anyone uncomfortable with illness used as a device.
