Seondal: The Man Who Sells the River

In the late Joseon period, Kim Seon-dal is the most capable conman in the country. He works with a small crew and attempts something bigger each time. Eventually he puts together a plan nobody would think of: selling the Taedong River. Finding a buyer is the easy part; the real task is convincing somebody that a river can be owned, and keeping that up until the last moment. Park Dae-min's film brings to the screen a legendary swindler who has been circulating in Korean folk tales for centuries. Despite being a period picture the tone is light; setting up the play, the deception and the plan that turns at the last second use every convention of the heist comedy. Yoo Seung-ho takes the lead. The matter underneath it is greed: everybody being fooled is trying to fool somebody else.
