What The Fortress Is About
The winter of 1636. The Qing army enters Joseon and King Injo takes his court into the mountain fortress of Namhansanseong. The enemy is outside, there is no food inside, and the soldiers are freezing. The real battle happens between two ministers: one argues for kneeling in order to save the people, the other that honour comes before survival. Hwang Dong-hyuk gives the argument more room than the swordplay and refuses to say who is right. Ryuichi Sakamoto wrote the score.
