Serial Lover

Claire is about to turn thirty-five, works for a publisher of crime novels and is seeing four men at once. On the evening of her birthday she invites all four to the house, meaning to decide which one she will marry. But while dinner is being prepared an accident happens and one of the four dies. Rather than calling the police, Claire chooses to hide the body. As the night goes on, the number of dead rises. James Huth's film is a black comedy and takes its humour entirely from timing: somebody knocks at the door again, and the body in Claire's hands moves somewhere else. Michèle Laroque plays the panic without exaggeration, which makes the situation funnier. Her working in crime fiction is a deliberate joke; she is applying the methods from her own books. It is over in eighty-three minutes and leaves the idea before it tires. Albert Dupontel is in support.
