What Serial Is About
In the affluent Marin County of late 1970s California, Harvey Holroyd tries to resist every new fad his wife, his friends and his neighbours take up one after another, while carrying a midlife crisis of his own. Between therapy groups, cults, open relationships and a fresh recipe for salvation every week, his patience runs out. Bill Persky’s ninety minute film is a satire adapted by Rich Eustis and Michael Elias from Cyra McFadden’s 1977 novel, and it imitates the West Coast fashions of the period without any mercy at all. Martin Mull and Tuesday Weld lead, with Sally Kellerman, Christopher Lee and Tom Smothers also in the cast.
