What Seve Is About
The film tells the life of the Spanish golfer Seve Ballesteros. Blocked at almost every turn as he went after the game he loved, he became one of the most spectacular and most talked about players ever to hold a club. The seam between the two is not hidden either; it is left visible. The account braids two kinds of material together: his childhood and early years are staged with actors, while everything after comes from the real tournament footage. That leaves the film neither wholly fiction nor wholly documentary; it stands between the two and keeps the viewer at that same distance. John-Paul Davidson’s hundred and twenty four minute film was completed in 2014.
