Seven Days… Seven Nights

Anne Desbarèdes is the wife of a wealthy factory owner. She lives in Blaye, a small town where everyone knows everyone, and her days are given over to her son's piano lessons. One day a woman is killed in the café downstairs. Anne does not quite see it, but she goes back the next day. There she meets Chauvin, a man who once worked in her husband's factory. For days they sit at the same table talking about that murder. The longer they talk, the less it is the murder they are describing and the more it is themselves. Peter Brook directs, adapting Marguerite Duras's 1958 novel. Ninety-one minutes, with Jeanne Moreau as Anne and Jean-Paul Belmondo as Chauvin. Moreau won best actress at Cannes in 1960 for this part.
