Sex, Drugs & Taxation

Denmark, the middle of the sixties. Mogens Glistrup is an ambitious tax lawyer and a master at finding the gaps in the law. Simon Spies has grown rich selling cheap package holidays and obeys no rule at all. The two meet and Glistrup brings Spies's tax down to almost nothing. The man soon becomes the most talked-about person in the country, and Glistrup announces on television that he pays no tax at all. Both were real people: Glistrup later founded a party, entered parliament and served a prison sentence for tax fraud, while Spies became one of the best known businessmen in Denmark. Christoffer Boe's film does not try to stay faithful to history and says so itself; what it tells is not a documentary but how two men used each other. Pilou Asbæk and Nicolas Bro play the two. The tone is comedy, but where the friendship ends up is not funny at all.
