Bride of the Earth

To be able to marry Keje, whom he loves, Seyyit Han goes off to meet the condition set by her brother Mürşit, that is, to rid himself of his enemies. When he returns to his village years later he learns that Keje has been given to Haydar Bey, the local lord. On the wedding night, when the bride will not come to him, Haydar Bey proposes a wager to Seyyit: if he can shoot the daisy set on a basket on the ground, Keje will be his. Seyyit trusts his marksmanship and wins the wager, but what he wins deals him the heaviest blow of his life. In Yılmaz Güney’s eighty one minute Turkish film he plays Seyyit himself and Nebahat Çehre plays Keje, with Hayati Hamzaoğlu in the cast. It was completed in 1968, is the first film Güney both wrote and directed, and brought him the best actor award at the Adana Golden Boll festival in 1969.
