Shakti

The young son of a police officer known for his honesty is kidnapped, and the men holding him want a jailed criminal released in exchange. Ashwini Kumar refuses, because he holds the law above everything; his son Vijay hears the refusal with his own ears, and what comes between them in that moment never closes again. As Vijay grows he crosses over to the men his father hunts, and the mother is left standing in the middle. Ramesh Sippy directed, from a screenplay by Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. This is the one film that brought two generations of Hindi cinema together; Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan never faced each other in anything else. Rakhee Gulzar plays the mother, Smita Patil the woman at Vijay’s side, with Amrish Puri and Kulbhushan Kharbanda on the other side. It took four Filmfare awards: best film, best screenplay, best sound editing and best actor for Kumar.
