What Shall We Dance? Is About

The life of Shohei Sugiyama, a middle aged accountant, is orderly, safe and completely joyless: work, train, home. One evening from the train he sees a young woman standing in the window of a dance school, and goes on looking at the same window for weeks. Eventually he enrols in ballroom classes in secret, because in Japan this is something a grown man is expected to be ashamed of. His wife, meanwhile, hires a private detective to find out why he keeps coming home late. Masayuki Suō treats dancing not as a romance but as a question of self expression. Kōji Yakusho leads.
