Siblings of the Cape

Yoshio and Mariko are brother and sister. They live in a coastal town in Japan. Their house is close to falling apart. One of Yoshio’s legs is lame. He has found work at the docks. What he earns barely covers the two of them. Mariko has an intellectual disability. She often leaves the house and wanders off. Each time her brother goes looking for her. Then Yoshio loses his job. The money coming in stops altogether. At that point he turns to a course that harms his sister. The film shows this without approving of it. Yuya Matsuura and Misa Wada take the leads in Shinzo Katayama’s Japanese film of 2019.
