Silkwood

A woman working at a plant producing nuclear fuel notices that the safety records are being altered and starts collecting documents with the union. The pressure at home and at work grows at the same time. The film does not draw her as a flawless heroine; the narrative shows her disorder, her relationships and her stubbornness in equal measure. The decontamination scenes after exposure are the most distressing part of it. Mike Nichols directed, with Meryl Streep, Kurt Russell and Cher. It follows real events, and the investigation into her death remains disputed. A real warning: forced decontamination procedures are shown and those scenes are long. The ending is left open.
