What Sleeping Man Is About
Takuji has an accident in the mountains. Since that day he has not woken. Where he lies is a room in the town. His neighbours look after him in turn. They take on his food, his washing and his medicine. That care becomes part of daily life. Time runs slowly in the town. The seasons change and the work goes on. People come and sit beside him and talk. Some tell their troubles and some say nothing. The sleeping man becomes a kind of mirror for them. What the film sets out is that state rather than a plot. Images of the landscape take up much of the account. Ahn Sung-ki, Koji Yakusho and Christine Hakim appear in the hundred and three minute film, a Japanese production Kōhei Oguri finished in 1996.
