Slingshot

The film is set in a poor district of Manila. Crime in the area is high. The account is built out of several stories that run into one another. National elections are coming up. So the police mount an operation in the district. The operation is carried out with hard methods. Its effect spreads across the whole neighbourhood. The account follows the daily life of the people who live there. Poverty is the ground of the story. The election calendar and the timing of the operation are tied together. The account follows a neighbourhood rather than one person. Jiro Manio and Coco Martin take the leads, with Kristoffer King and Jaclyn Jose also in the cast, in Brillante Ma Mendoza’s Filipino film of 2008.
