Smuggling Hendrix

Yiannis is a musician whose career never happened and who is deep in debt. He has decided to leave Cyprus and start again somewhere else. The day before his flight his dog Jimi runs off and crosses the line that divides Nicosia. The rules do not allow the animal to come back. To get his dog, Yiannis has to work with Hasan on the other side, and the two of them set about smuggling a dog across. Marios Piperides's first feature won best international narrative feature at Tribeca in 2018. The film approaches the division of the island not through big statements but through the absurdity of a dog that cannot cross a line, and it keeps the same distance from the bureaucracy on both sides.
