What Snow Is About
The story takes place in a small village in eastern Bosnia. The village is called Slavno. The year is 1997 and it is autumn. After the war it was mostly women who were left there. There are children too, an old grandfather and a little boy. The men disappeared during the war. No word of them has come back. Alma is a young widow. She is looking for a way for the village to keep itself. She tries making and selling plum jam. The women set about it together. An offer arrives from outside to buy the village. They are caught between staying and leaving. None of the violence of the war is put on screen. What is shown is the weight left behind. It was the first feature its director made.
