What Solitary Fragments Is About
After a hard separation Adela moves to Madrid with her baby and ends up sharing a flat with two young people. Antonia owns a shop and has three grown daughters. The film runs the two lines side by side: health, work, money, family. Adela loses her son, a year and a half old, in an attack on a bus. Jaime Rosales shoots the entire film in split screen, but uses it not to join distant moments together, instead putting two different views of the same moment in the same place beside each other. It won the Goyas for best film and best director.
