Son of Mine

There is a suffocating love between a father and a son. The two of them live in Limburg, in the south of the Netherlands, a province worn out and neglected. They make their living from work that falls outside the law. Whether the son can get out of that order is the question that carries the story. The film is interested less in the crime than in the relation of fatherhood, and in how that relation becomes a dependency. The account looks at how a family line works like a fate. That it was shot in the local dialect gives the film a texture of its own. Bart Slegers and Vincent van der Valk appear in Remy van Heugten’s hundred and four minute Dutch film, completed in 2015.
