Son of Rambow

A film set in 1980s England about two boys trying to make a film. Will grows up in a religious community with strict rules. No television, no cinema, no music. Lee Carter is the school's terror; nobody looks after him, he is alone at home, and he has a video camera. One day Lee shows Will a pirated tape: Rambo. Will sees an action film for the first time in his life and the effect is large. The two decide to shoot their own sequel. Will is the stuntman, Lee the cameraman. While describing the shoot, the film does two things at once: the making and breaking of a childhood friendship, and a boy stepping out of the closed world he was raised in. Garth Jennings directed. The visual language carries the boys' imagination straight onto the screen; drawings come alive and the real and the imagined stand in the same shot. Bill Milner plays Will and Will Poulter plays Lee, in his first film. A sincere choice for anyone who likes stories of childhood and films built on a love of cinema. For a viewer looking for restraint, the final section raises the feeling openly.
