What Sons of Bitches Is About
The artistic director of a theatre is prevented from returning while he is abroad and is stripped of his citizenship. The actors rise against the decision and refuse to leave the stage; the ministry sends an official to take the situation in hand, and those inside split among themselves as well. Who will hold out and who will sign becomes clear day by day. The film comes out of what happened to Yuri Lyubimov, head of the Taganka Theatre, in 1984. It is the only film Leonid Filatov directed; he suffered a stroke during the shoot. Vladimir Ilin and Yevgeniy Yevstigneyev appear in the ninety eight minute Soviet production, completed in 1991.
