What Sons of Rizk 2: Return of the Lions of the Land Is About
Tarek Al-Aryan's 2019 Egyptian film continues the 2015 original and follows four brothers trying to leave crime behind and being pulled back in. This time the matter is not theft but the drug trade, and the brothers face a structure far larger than themselves. The film was among the biggest successes at the Egyptian box office, and the scale of the production shows it: crowded action sequences, wide use of location and a story on a regional scale. Its strength lies in the relationship among the brothers; each takes a different road and the bond cannot bear it. Its weakness is not weighing the consequences of violence enough, and its length. Who it's for: viewers who like Arab action cinema and crime drama. Who it's not for: anyone avoiding violent content, or who has not seen the first film.
