Sons of Rizk

Tarek Al-Aryan's 2015 Egyptian film is about four brothers who commit crimes together. The sons of Rizk have been doing small jobs for years with a promise between them that they will stop one day; when the eldest wants to keep that promise the others refuse and agree to work with a wanted crime boss. From there things spiral fast. The film belongs to the action strand of Egyptian commercial cinema and builds a story that puts the bond between brothers above everything, with chases and fights in the streets of Cairo as its foremost quality. Economic hardship is given as the reason for the crime, but the film does not take that further. It was a large box office success at home and led to sequels. Who it's for: viewers who like Arab action and crime stories. Who it's not for: anyone expecting social depth; the film gives priority to pace.
